Vacation Tips for Dog Owners Who Love to Travel
Everything I Bring to Keep My Dogs Safe and Happy on the Road
Hello, Friend,
I’m enjoying my time on vacation. As soon as I walked into the rental, I felt the stress melt away, and I’ve been relaxing, working on my book, and doing things like this post.

Traveling with Dogs
I’ve probably mentioned this before, but I travel with my dogs. They’re small—around 11 pounds each—so easy to take with me. Even before I had these two, my kids and I traveled with our 30-pound Border collie/beagle mix Zoe.
Traveling with dogs can be a challenge, but Zoe made it easier. She loved going in the car. I had a harness that attached to the seat belt and kept her safe, and I had a cover for the seat to keep it as clean as I could.
And I’ve continued doing that with these two dogs. I’ve gotten pretty good at keeping them comfortable during trips. Here are some tips I recommend if you’re traveling with your dog.
Harness/collar and leash. Where I’m staying now, there is a leash law. Obviously, that means you’ll need either a harness or collar. I use harnesses for my girls.
Food and treats. Bring plenty of your dog’s regular food and treats—nearby pet stores may not carry what you use.
Toys/beds. I take a couple of toys for my one dog because she’s still pretty active. I also take their beds for the car and then bring them into the rental. Even if they ignore the beds, having them around seems to help.
Portable gate. I have a wooden portable gate I take with me to block off doorways, or in my current rental, the top of the staircase. It just provides a little extra safety to make sure they stay where I want them.
What I’m Currently Reading
I’m slowly making my way through Beach Read by Emily Henry. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m on vacation, but I’m having a hard time getting into this one. I am pretty sure it’s me because I know books by this author have been popular. It also doesn’t help I’ve been sleepy when I’m trying to read at bedtime. I’m not giving up on it yet.
